Absurd question re Shell sticker to stump my fellow RS owners

O.k. guys, here's one for you:

It appears the earlier RS chassis #'s had the yellow Shell sticker with red lettering on the top right-hand side of the air cleaner housing. This is the same sticker that I believe was used as early as 1970.

Sometime during the run, the Shell sticker converted over to the white sticker with red lettering. This sticker is longer relative to it's width than the yellow sticker. Moreover, I believe this white sticker was used as late as 1975.

I poured over a variety of my Porsche books and I'm able to spot both stickers on various cars, albeit their chassis #'s aren't identified.

So does anybody know when the factory switched over? I am unfortunately of little help since my RS (#1334) doesn't have the factory aircleaner.

Lastly, does everybody at least agree that the yellow sticker with red lettering is correct for my 1970 S?

Can anybody tell I have too much time on my hands today?? Can't wait for the replies!

Yes, Stacy - but I know you would have gone straight out to your garage to look if your RS had the original aircleaner housing!

    Rob,

I've done some homework on this ... (too much time on my hands as well )

My car had a white sticker on it till I changed it - it was a little beat ... not knowing what'sup I put one of our yellow 'early' stickers on it, thinking THAT must be right for my car. Then I did the homework and realized the white sticker was indeed correct. (and probably original to the car)

As far as I can tell the white stickers started about March '73 ...
My #1099 '73 is an April car ...
I would guess (without looking in the Bible) that your #1334 RS is latter then that.

Should be a 'white sticker' buddy

And yes... the yellow sticker IS right for your '70

    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,

I read the entire thread and won't remember which is correct in the morning. What have you done with the Rob that chased me around the NASCAR 1 and 2 in his twin turbo beast.
Remember when you would drive it like this?
