mcampuzano's 906 photos in posts 1381 and 1383 are fascinating. I think that they are from June of 1971, just after Fernando Madera bought his 906 (the car in post 1381) from Pitty Block, a Peruvian, who had just recently bought Armando Capriles' 906 and had it repainted in the Peruvian national colors of red and white (this is the car is post # 1383). What's interesting is that the 906 in post # 1381 is s/n 906-138 and, from that point on, the 906 in post # 1383 also would carry s/n "906-138". This was probably done to avoid paying importation duties to bring the second 906 into Peru. Who would know that one 906 replaced the other?
Kevin Jeanette restored the second "906-138" a few years ago. He figured out that it couldn't possibly be "906-138". It took me a couple of years to piece together the puzzle of what had happened and to figure out that the second "906-138" was in fact 906-158. I suspect that Block actually took delivery of 906-158 just prior to this race at Rio Hato, Panama.

Sigfried Honl, a very close friend of mine, took the photos himself. He was the mechanic in charge for the 906. Part of the decoration on the car was indeed for either commercial or fiscal reasons. I'm scanning many photos taken by him since he was a mechanic for Porsche in the 50's, the he worked in Sweden, Switzerland, Brumos in USA, and then married in Mexico and stayed here. He was the mechanic in charge of 4 cam 356 engines for the late Gary Kempton. He's the one in the middle.
