The overall appearance of that Italian S suggests originality and a nice patina but there are one or two things that just don't fit in. Dunno, maybe it's just me but I'd be very cautious.
The chassis vin stamping, the gear lever/knob, the mismatched aluminium plate rivets, the non Italian indicator lenses, the ravaged paint tag, the missing door pockets, the odd headrests (should be D shaped for leather anyway-right), door handles, the two Durant mirrors, the bonnet badge, window winders, sound pad all caught my eye.

    Regards
    Mike

I am with you on that Jules. Did they make leather headrests those look like vinyl and don't match the "patina" very well.

    Auction Description:

The example on offer here, Chassis # 9110301644, according to its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, was produced on August 1st, 1970 as a Silver Metallic (8080) over Black Leatherette example. The options recorded were US Equipment, Comfort Package, Blaupunkt Radio Frankfurt, and Tinted Glass. The engine number on the COA, 6302248, is also the same number stamped on the engine and the car is indeed a numbers matching example. It is thought to be a three owner car with some California history. By 2004 the car received a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration by a marque expert as evident by the quality and extent of the restoration. It is obvious through inspection that all of the little nuances that make a restoration great on one of these cars are present. Everything from the correct undercoating color, cadmium plated hardware and many little items that add up to exactness, exactness that only a professional could understand and portray in his craftsmanship.
The time to invest in a quality Porsche has never been better. There is no doubt that this is an opportunity for the serious collector looking to acquire a great 911S. Complete with Jack, spare, some documentation, manual and Porsche COA.

    Auction Description:

This exceptional example has been totally restored to extremely high standards and is presented in one of the signature colors for this era: Signal Red, with a black top and black leather interior. Its well-appointed cabin benefits from the "S" instrumentation and trim package, and for today's driving enjoyment has the addition of a modern stereo system. Mechanically, its clutch and transmission have been rebuilt and the motor has the sensible addition of a chain tensioner upgrade. During its rebuild a new/old stock soft window was fitted, as were European-style headlights. It's equipped with a 1,991cc SOHC flat 6-cylinder engine with dual Webber carburetors and produces 130hp at 6,100 rpm. It also has 5-speed manual transaxle, 4-wheel independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes.

    Seller's Description:

Up for sale here is an unmolested, unrestored 1971 Porsche 911 S Targa that left the factory the very beautiful color combination Gold metallic Exterior over black interior.

The History of the car goes like that… The first owner purchased the car back in early 71 in San Diego. He drove it for 6 month and than the second owner took over. This Porsche stayed in California and moved from San Diego up to Incline Village right at Lake Tahoe and later to Grass Valley. 2nd owner is a very well known Porsche enthusiast (Long time PCA member). He had the car for a whopping 45 years !!!

The Car: Factory Porsche 911S Targa with the matching numbers engine and MFI still installed. Car runs and drives as it should, and pulls really hard, like you would expect it. The engine fires right up and runs smooth without any issues. Tranny shifts flawless through the 5 gears. The Body is virtually rust free, with no accident damage ever.

The condition: Although the car is un-restored and untouched, it still got some work to it done, that was necessary to preserve the excellent condition…
Starting with the paint… The factory gold metallic paint (8810) was known to fade over the years and so the car received a high quality respray in it’s original color back in the late 90’s. Also the front seats became a little mellow and got a new factory style upholstery. All service and maintenance was performed by well known Porsche mechanics in California. Latest upgrades to mention would be: A redone Targa top to factory specs… A brand new Sachs clutch kit with replacing the main wheel bearing seal (0 miles)… 4 brand new Pirelli Tires with 0 miles (Factory spare still with original unused tire)… Fuel tank was removed, flushed and re-coated inside…
    Now listed on Craig's List:
