Thread: Show Me Your Vintage P Dealer Plate Frames.

  1. #291
Hi All! First post here. I met Richard Uhlman this weekend while at the Brumos swap and he mentioned this forum to me. Anyways, I've got several frames to share some photo's of and many have the Porsche Audi logo's on them. I'll post up over the next several days.

Here's a Peter Gregg one I scored for free

    Circle . . .

    . . . from the '69 and '70 PDLs . . .

    422/177/1
    Circle Motors, Inc
    1919 Lakewood Blvd
    Long Beach, CA 90815

    . . . in ~late '70, moving/becoming . . .

    Circle Porsche Audi Ltd
    4400 Los Coyotes Diagonal
    LB

    . . . and still there --- same location

    Later version's been shown here, already -- see post #112 . . .
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...%2C+long+beach

    This is the earlier version --- when Porsches were a side-line . . .

Semi-gloss white lettering on a semi-gloss med blue back-round, flash-chromed. Plate = std CA pass iss, etc

Amazing bit --- almost NOS . . . showing only the slightest traces of ever having been mounted, first rust blooms just ready to burst

    Inter-Continental . . .

    . . . from the '69/'70 PDLs . . .

    425/040/1
    Inter-Continental Motors, Corp
    3303 Broadway, PO Box 2270
    San Antonio, TX 78206/78209

Older style 'grooving' where the verticals join is a feature usually seen on the oldest frames. Not too surprising to see here, since this outfit was in the VW business since ~'59. Disappears as a Porsche dealer after '70. Cool name

Semi-gloss white lettering on a med blu back-round, flash-chromed, no maker's name/ID. Suspiciously shiny bit --- so, possibly restored? Plate = std TX pass iss

    Montgomery . . .

    From the '69, '70, and '72 PDLs . . .

    425/036/1
    Montgomery Motors
    4101 Ave Q, PO Box 836/2486
    Lubbock, TX 79412/79408

Apparently white lettering on the barest traces of a bright red back-round, flash-chromed. No Makers marks/ID. Plate = std Kansas pass iss, 'SF' = Stafford County

Oil country. How many Porsches ever sold in West Texas?

    Pardee . . .

    . . . from the '69 and '70 PDLs . . .

    426/055/1
    Pardee Volkswagen
    Lake Tahoe Blvd and Tata
    Tahoe Valley, CA

Looks like white lettering on a powder blue (!) back-round, flash-chromed. Plate = std CA, etc, etc . . .

One of the things I like about Old Frames is their power to conjure up times + places long gone by. I was talking w/ a Framer-Acquaintance o' mine --- about the stuff we collect + why. Tells me a story, about taking some old car to a show --- a beautiful/fully-restored/top shelf/OMG-kinda car . . . and he --- the Proud Owner, standing there + having to answer questions/listen to stories about? . . . The Frame

    . . . lived down the street . . .
    . . . Dad used to take me there . . .
    . . . first car . . .
    . . . what ever happened to that place? . . .

Then there's just the romance o' some o' those places. Like Vegas. And Reno . . .

    . . . and Tahoe

    Pardee, indeed

    Oasis . . .

    From the ’70 + ’72 PDLs . . . . . . and my very favorite frame

    Volkswagen Oasis
    4057 E. Palm Canyon Dr
    Palm Springs, CA

Dull black lettering on gold-washed/flash-chrome . . . still stuck to the plate that first it came on = std CA pass, etc

Like Vegas + Tahoe . . . . Palm Springs was one o’ Those Places

This frame pretty much has it all . . . a Real Dealfat panelRWB &Co, and all their hallmark finickiness --- with the delicate scribing in the lower corners as well as ‘pebbling’ inside both (upper + lower) ‘letter boxes’ . . . all schmalzed-up with a deliciously-tacky treatment of some kind o’ gold wash that looks like it was done out in a parking lot. Totally over-the-top. Bling --- blang --- bloi - yoi - yoi - yoi - yoing

    Excellence may’ve been expected but . . .

    . . . this’ll do

    Oh-but wait ---- there’s more! . . .
