^ AVS Intermediate remains one of my all-time favorite all-around street tires, up there (oddly) with the current Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 (which, sadly, isn't available in the sizes we need...because it has a simple sidewall and sufficiently not alien tread pattern).

But, of all of the tires I've ever had on my old Porsche, my favorite was the A-008R TU or, to a lesser extent, the A-008P (which was a Porsche-approved tire and available on a number of Porsches). If we're dreaming, I'd want a 195/65 and 205/60 A-008R, as these were the best tires I've ever had under my 914's fenders—but I'd be very happy with any of the above...and would find them more appealing than any of the year-correct tires. Just a really nice nexus of simple sidewalls, "normal" tread patterns, good performance (1980s vs 1970s), and sizing that added a little while still fitting under early Porsche fenders.

But I'd be thrilled to see someone get Yokohama to re-pop the Porsche-approved A-008P in 195/65R15 and 215/60R15. There was a 185/70R15, too, but I feel like that size is more than covered. I have Avons in that size, but would prefer to go Yoko. I suspect I am not the only one...

O.P. asked about 7" and 8"s and I'm curious about the comment that 215s were stock for an RS. Is that for an RS with 8"s? Every 215 I check out recommends a max 7.5" wheel. I'm looking for tires for my 7"s and 8"s. My current 205/50s in front look far too short, and the 225/50s on the rear the same. Although I do like the acceleration a shorter tire gives, 3800 rpm at 70mph all day long while touring on the highway is a bit much for me. I'd like to get back to the stock rolling radius of 25.2" or so, and the 215/60 is right there, but will my 8"s be too wide for 215"s?

They'll be fine. I don't know when the tire industry standards changed to spec 7.5" as max for a 215/60, but it's relatively recent. Porsche fitted 215/60-15 to 8" wheels on early 930 turbos, 911SC (when optioned with 15" Fuchs, not cookie cutters), many early 944 (again when optioned with staggered 15" Fuchs) and 3.2 Carrera through '89 (with 15" Fuchs, not phone dials). A 1/2" over the recommendation wouldn't bother me at all, and I've got 25 years in tire sales and service (first career ended in '98).

For the best RS look, I’d go with 6” and 7”. I don’t think 7” and 8” looks nearly as good on an RS in my opinion. I switched to 6 and 7s and much prefer them.

Doug and Arne, Thanks, that's what I needed to hear. Rower, I'll stick with what I've got, I like the look. Thanks all.

Yes if you already have them or prefer the more aggressive look then absolutely! Makes sense!

But not with front bumper/spoilers however. French authorities required S bumper despite inferior aero performance and balance. Obviously regulatory authorities in France "didn't know their RS from their elbow" regarding dynamics; although half a km faster than no spoilers on either end in French configuration the nose rose and steering went light in the unbalanced set up the French insisted upon so at speed provided virtually no feel and making worse the tendancy of 911 to understeer in corners. Compared to normal RS spoiler pair set up outside France was 4.5 km faster and more balanced on cornering ans bit better in crosswinds .

Genuine original first 500 series car abived photographed in 1972 around time of October 72 Carerra RS launch featuring the correct spec 6 & 7 Fuchs with 185 70 15 and unique to RS 215 60 15. Rear size only available from Pirelli initially; distinctive stance illustrating factory ride height on the world's first production road car to have different front to rear axle rims and tyres.. rather than the later fashion for fatter wider and lower.

These are classic cars ... but owners prerogotive on their RS and homages of course. What is often seen now isn't always authentic to the original 500 limited edition homologation cars and that's fine as long as don't forget how it was ...7 & 8 option becoming more commonly seen from around spring with later series although could be retrofitted despite no M option number for them.

Tweaks can improve things and folks learned but not all modifications are better. For exple: while the revised rear suspension with shorter trailing arms of some late RS examples homologated those revisions for the benefit the relatively few full house RSR racers on extremely wide rim and sticky slick track only tyres that change is regarded as retrorade step vs the earlier longer but strengthened RS trailing arm set up road going RS using more normal rubber.

Advertising briefly true until they cashed in on the unexpected success with 500 more to qualify for other Group then over 500 more made more efficiently than the 1000 or so limited edition homologation ones to make some money.

Are any of you guys fitting the 15" P7?

    https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/cat.../category/7121 5.5" - 7.5"
    &
    https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/pir...turato-p7.html 6" - 8" rim

They would fit your rims, and they are a 1974 tyre.

i think they were Porsche fitment in 1975.

    does anyone have any pictures?
