Please vote on my '65 - AC or not?

I'm getting ready to dig into my '65 coupe - it's a nice original, solid car, and I plan to take it to the next level. What do I do with the AC? It's the dealer/ factory system, in good shape overall - condensers in the decklid and drivers fender, old york compressor. I'd have to patch 4 holes in the tub if I remove it, not much else. I'm pretty sure I can make it work (at least as well as these did).
I go back and forth on this, and decision time is coming up. I don't know when this was installed - I don't think they were available in '65 ( this is a May car), but I've seen brochures from late '66.

Opinions, please!! What do you think of value with/without?

Recognizing the fallability of the document, is it on the COA?

I wouldn't be so much focused on the theoretical "value" itself but on the respect and preservation of the car history ... if the AC was installed when the car was reasonably recent (e.g. at the dealer or by the first owner), I'd keep it. If it's a later addition (e.g. some crap from the 80's) I'd get rid of it.

I could be wrong but I don't think the York was installed before late '68. The A/C shown in the early Porsche manuals says it was a US option only and the setup was the Delanair. Delanair used the Tecumseh compressor at least into 1968. There was VPC installed by dealers but this was not with the blessing of Porsche. I don't think VPC had a fender condenser but I could be wrong on that. I think you could also get something from COOLAIRE. The 912 site and Pelican have a writeup and brochure on the Delanair. Pretty sure it never appeared on the COA/Kardex. Would have to find out if factory would install on US cars which were European delivered.

The AC on mine is the one pictured on early dealer brochures ('67 or so) - definitely a dealer installed ( but Porsche or Porsche North America designed and approved). I'll go dig - think I have the brochure. I could be wrong about the compressor - I can't tell the diff between a York and Tecumseh; they're just big square compressors set on an American/stovebolt looking bracket.

Definitely a Tecuseh in '67. I have two of them. Not only was the system approved by Porsche but it appears as a diagram and instructions in US manuals in '67 and '68.

Thanks again for the targa supplement PDF. I'm the one who forwarded it on. I'd appreciate the missing pages when you have the time to scan them.

So do yours work? How well? I remember a very similar system on my '67 BMW 2000 CS that was pretty lame.
Send me your email again - I rescanned the supplement

If it was a factory install as evidenced on your COA I would definitely keep it since it was probably rare. I would also consider installing a new rotary compressor which are more effective. Tulsa gets warm so it's great to have Air conditioning.

I've never seen factory air on a short wheelbase car. The earliest Behr air I recall was on a 2.2 - anybody got one on a 2 liter? The vast majority of Porsche AC was dealer installed until the SC came along.
