1971T Pastel Blue finds its way back home after 40 years

Long story short. My Dad purchased this car in 1971. 911T, non-sunroof, Pastel Blue with Black basket weave interior. He drove it as his everyday car. Snow, rain, all. It was his transportation. He could afford one car and this was going to be it. He did some trick mods for back in the day. Had it professionally aligned/lowered. Found an original RS ducktail (wasn't hard to get one in the early 70's) and had it installed. And probably the best is in 1974 after putting 200k miles on the car for traveling all over the place he changed the motor to an original (stock) 1972 911S motor. So for it's day between Pastel Blue, Non-Sunroof, Original RS Ducktail and a 72 S motor….he had it dialed. In 1974, I was 8 years old. Go forward to 2014 and I always wondered what happened to the 71T and I didn't even know where to begin….so I didn't.

As luck would have it in March of this year a Gentleman in St. Louis connected with some long time PCA members and asked if they knew who owned this car. He asked the right guy and he knew this car sounded like my Dad's old car. It turns out that the person my Dad sold it to in 1976 bought it, drove it for 1 year, and then put it in storage……and there it sat since 1978!!!! Everything my Dad had done to he car was still on the car and in tact. I pleaded with our new found friend for 4 months to sell it to me to bring it back to the Family. Well after many attempts we agreed on a purchase. The car is in fantastic shape for its age. The underbody isn't rusted at all. The interior is close to exceptional condition. The paint needs some work but Pastel Blue is one of my favorites, so it will stay original but get restored. In any case for those of you who grew up as a kid with these great cars, I thought you might enjoy the story.

Stories don't get any better than that. Thanks for sharing.

I am curious though on photo dates?

Those second set of photos are taken from my Dad when he did a track day in the early 70's. The ones dated 2012 are from the guy who bought the car from the 2nd owner who had it in storage since 1978. He bought it a few years ago and had planned to do an RS clone project but luckily decided it was too original to do that and connected with my Dad which is how I found out it still existed!

Did the car spend time in Colorado? It has a Rennenhaus decal on the windshield in the two older photos, that was Grady Clay's shop in Denver.
