Look for this thread in "General" by 10a PST.

    Joe,
First word of advice: Listen to buyers and sellers who are currently involved in the market. That is not to say that everyone can't have an opinion but there's lots of myth and fantasy that goes on here.
If you're on the outside looking in, all you would typically be privy to are asking numbers, not selling prices.

    And auctions don't count.

    Good luck.

Yep, that's the best answer I've seen regarding this topic. Unfortunately, I’ve been reading this forum for maybe 10 years, and I have no clue as to what these cars really get sold for amongst private sales.

I recently sold 3 of my cars, I only listed them for sale on the "S" Registry to market them primarily to long hood fans. My goal was to make some space, I was not greedy and sold them all very quickly. Some people messaged me and suggested I should have asked twice as much based on others asking prices. I considered the time and costs involved to make them perfect, so I priced accordingly. I did not consider auction prices, Hagerty valuation, or list prices of cars that have been sale for several months. I priced on what I thaught was fair for me and potential buyers. Judging by the overwhelming response I had, I priced them right.

    Joe,

I'd say the place to start is to look at what is for sale right now- most of the cars I see for sale have been on the market for quite a while- so you can at least get a sense of what cars don't sell for, my sense is most early 911's I see for sale are priced 20-25 % too high to really get a buyer to write a check. I think it depends on what you have- if you have totally pristine cars to sell - the correct auction may be the best venue. Hopefully some one who has recently sold or bought will PM you, my experience is folks don't like to disclose this information. I'd at least look at the hagerty valuations - I think they are least in the ballpark except for top of the market cars. I'd try ebay - you have nothing to lose.
