Thread: Early 65 Value

    Early 65 Value

I'm thinking about selling my very early 65 911. I bought it a while ago, planning to restore it, drive it for a year or two and to then sell it. It's in epoxy primer, nearly ready for paint. All of the body work is done, the engine and transmission have been rebuilt. Given current values, it may make more sense for me to let it go now. How big a hit do sellers take when selling projects mid-process? Do they go for 1/3 or 1/2 of the price of a completed project? It still may make more sense for me to stick with the original plan.

We can get a better idea if you post the VIN...

It's VIN #300329. Non matching engine and transmission, both from 1965.

Do you have engine # and original color code? Did you get a COA?
Any options? Do you have all the bits and parts that go with the '65?

    Engine number 903216
Color code per door post tag and cardex = 716
The COA shows "light ivory" with no number, but it left the factory as a custom paint color, a little darker than Bahama Yellow.

The car was pretty complete when I bought it. I have the full interior, seats, gauges, etc. I don't have a good steering wheel for it. I have the dash mahogany from a late 65 that could be used. I have all of the glass, window frames, chrome etc. Some of the aluminum trim is rough, I intended to try polishing it. It may be Ok. All of the rubber seals have to be replaced. I don't have a complete set of tin for the engine, I do have a set of webber carbs.

That particular engine was built before the switch from Solex to Webers. But your chances of obtaining the actual engine from the factory are slim.

I would of thought the best way forward would be to sell the chassis and parts and keep the engine and gearbox and try and find the original owner. The engine takes up next to no room so storage is not a problem. What price do you have in mind. I am not in the market as I have a 65 also I which needs a lot of work. Good luck. PM me for a chat of you need to.

Any opinions on value without engine? Would it matter if owner found an earlier engine to use assuming the original
    lost forever?
