    A sad day

This is the some of the aftermath of a hangar fire in Camas, Washington last week. The Porsches were '65/66 912s. The other vehicle was a Geo Tracker. In the middle of the hangar was a Cessna 182 which, mercifully, burned to ashes so I didn't have to view the distorted hulk of an airplane I'd enjoyed for 27 years. A dozen more hangars met the same fate that night.

Not too long ago, a Registry thread detailed a similar loss of exceptional early Porsches in California. I remember thinking how unlikely it could happen to me. Lesson learned. I am updating the insurance on my other cars and will be proactive about fire prevention where they are stored. Take my free advice and do the same.

oh crap.. I am very unhappy to hear about this. Being someone that trekked southern Washington State, in my college days, I happen to be familiar with that very airport. Thanks for sharing. With all due respect, do you have some images of cars lost and the plane to share, so there might be a little memorandum for them?

    Sorry to hear Steve...

Good idea on updating the insurance on your other Porsches - just did the same myself.

    Oh my.

Really sorry. Any idea on the origin of the fire?

The crumpled steel siding surrounding still-standing wooden timbers is eerie.

Can you share what you believe started the fire? Very curious if we can learn anything from what happened.
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
+1... I mean those hangars are generally concrete floor, steel beams (OK wood in this case) and corrugated metal sheets for walls. Some have fire suppression too... Wondering how those things happen, it's not exactly a tinder box, in theory it'd be safer than my wood house (assuming it's not criminal). I can see a fuel leak given the stuff parked in there, but what sparks then ?

Sorry for your losses, I like 912s !!! I just replaced a $$$ cracked fuel pump on mine to avoid something similar...
