So the new Porsche "entry level" mid engined car...

Supposedly the new 914/boxster "peoples car"...has anyone any pics or info about the car? I am very curious what represents an entry level car these days. The Macan looks good (as a scaled down version of the Cayenne) but base price is 50k+. Not arguing the price, just wondering how the marketing dept is going to represent the new entry level Porsche.

Recently Porsche announced there will be no entry level sports car below Boxster/Cayman. The resell market of used Porsches will continue to be the entry level.

I just spoke with a friend who recently returned back from a trip to Germany and more importantly some time at Porsche. He is an ex-Porsche dealer who was told the Boxster will receive the new 4 cylinder becoming the entry level car with the Cayman sticking with the 6 cylinder. Time will tell if the rumor is true.

As a owner of a car with a 4 cylinder POLO engine, I was looking forward to owning a new 718 to go with my current 67 Porsche. I owned a 914-6 with a 2.2S engine in the past and liked the mid engine layout. Dreams of driving a 2.5 liter turbo 4 in a 2600 pound car in the Colorado high country really got my interest. Colorado's high country and turbo's are a perfect marriage. My daily driver is a A4 Avant 1.8T manual. When I put my car next to a Boxster or Cayman they are huge and heavy. I have NO interest in them. For me they are so big and heavy that they are GT cars. Granted they will run away and hide from my car but it is the light sports car experience I miss when I drive one. Maybe it will have to be a used Lotus Elise SC for me. As a life long 50's to early 70's Porsche fan this is yet again another sad announcement.

Wait a minute...this is not a bad thing

We like early and we like light. Or better said...we like the ability to make light despite the government's efforts to heavy-up the cars in the interest of safety. Remember, our parents went to mid-afternoon cocktail parties...and drove home in cars with no seatbelts! So a 4-banger boxster is curious to me...pricepoint etc.
I am currently finishing up a 2.7 RS spec engine for my 914-6. When installed I will be 1900 lbs...and not mass produced. Granted the technology for a 4-banger boxster will be 40 years newer...and it will have electric windows, power seats and ABS brakes. I like the idea of a modern technology entry level car...with a minimalistic approach. I recently had an acquaintance trade his convertible D for a new 991...hmmm.
Our (early folks) prices are continuing to increase, and the new stuff is holding value???
