I have a dated 73 plastic tank to fit into my 73 car , working out the brackets to hold it i find the front is wayyyy off the bolt hole in the y support. Its far to forward. what am i missing ?

You have to drill a new mounting hole for that front bracket. I think that's the problem you're describing?

so it doesn't attached to the existing hole in the y support. well that makes sense i guess . so my next question would be , the car has the mounting holes for rs brackets in the vin panel so why not the front trunk floor panel? this car is a mystery.

That's normal,,,the holes for the nut plates in the trunk floor were there in all 73's, but not the front bracket hole.
