    Please help identify this engine.

I had a fellow come into my shop to offering to sell me a car, I passed on the car and asked him what else they had for Audi/Porsche/VW.
He mentions that they had an old Porsche engine in the back of their plow truck just using it for dead weight for better traction. I'm thinking an old 924 lump. He says it has a giant turbo on it. I'm thinking maybe a 944 turbo? Still wasn't too interested. He says he'll send pictures. Pictures arrive next morning. It's a aircooled flat six. And... It has a red air shroud.
We agree on a price and he delivers it later that day. It is complete from exhaust to carbs.
The engine is numbered 6381380. Does this make it a 1968 S?

Not a '68S. Those numbers would be in the 4080001- 4081549 range.

I believe you have a '78 Euro 3.0 set up with carbs?

How about additional photos and internal designation? That will make it easy.
