    Parts/Items For Sale Threads

Ok rather than trashing someone's "For Sale" thread, I wanted to start a thread that would allow us to vent our frustration with some of the choice words used to describe the item for sale. I can't tell you how many times I started to post on someone's thread and thought better of it. I will start with a couple of my favorites:

"Should clean up ok" (then clean it up!)
"Was working ok when I removed it" (ok so is it working now?)

If you are really bored, after someone posts here you can scan the "For Sale" threads and see if you can match it with an item currently for sale.

I am guilty of the "clean up quote" My thinking is if I spend the time, then I want more cash, if you do it, I will sell it cheaper. Maybe my idea of clean up and yours are two different things.
    Just my two cents.

p.s. I am not directing my comment at you directly Mike, just being rhetorical.

No harm, just that if the part doesn't cleanup ok, can it be returned? Maybe I am just picky but I like to see the part displayed in it's best condition unless of course I can view it in person.

I guess nobody else has any buying selling peeves?
I have one myself, hate when someone asks "what's it worth"!! It takes about 10 minutes to research and find a decent range, list it in the middle and go from there. I typically list on the lower side as I am not trying to make a bunch off of a few parts, just trying to supplement my habit.
    Mark..
p.s. it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay..

I agree with both of you and specifically with you Mark. I'm out of my element in the Porsche world but I'm doing my best to learn. If you asked me what a rare or obscure VW part is selling for i could probably tell you of hand. When I sell a Porsche part I have, the least I can do both for myself and an interested party is to use the search function. I think sometimes when people ask for "value" they're beating around the bush and phishing for bids without having to throw a number out
Porsche taste on a Volkswagen budget...

Oh, I have plenty of "buying/selling peeves". I just pulled a few "descriptions" from just the first page of the classifieds on this site.
    Here are a few:

"real deal"................................ Who is deciding it is a "real deal" ?
"ready to be restored"............................. Must mean that it is a POS
"some rust, scrapes, etc"..................... In other words it is a POS
"nice solid used condition"............................ Don't know what to think about that
"appear to been used very lightly"....................nice grammar (If English is not your primary language, you get a pass)
"Appears to be in very good shape"..................According to who?
    "Rare item'............................................. ......Aren't they all?
"been in storage for decades"............................Nobody has wanted to needed the thing for decades.
"fully operational when removed"........................Then, why was it removed?
"very hard to find"..........................................You haven't been looking in the right places

Just a few. I could go on for pages. These aren't too bad, though. It gets much worse on other sites.

    Ciao

    Jim
PS: Just describe the thing properly and leave out all the BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

    Lol

Unfortunately Jim we find ourselves in a world where sellers believe flowery language has to sell "the thing" rather than the thing selling itself.

I agree. I spent much of my working life around sales and marketing and have been exposed to far too much hyperbole (pronounced hyper-bull). I'm not without guilt but I try hard to refrain from over-use of adjectives when listing something for sale. Just the facts, Ma'am. With enough information and pictures the item speaks for itself as Frank says.

My #2 pet peeve? Over-use of the word "rare" as a justification for $$$.

And I do have a problem with the "worked when removed thing". Maybe take a few minutes to test it?

    Cheers,
    John
