Hi
I don't know if this sounds crazy! But is there way that I can find my matching # engine?
My car has a non matching engine but would love to find the original one, but it and put it back where it belongs?!
Is that too crazy?

not crazy, ambitious yes. But.....it starts with letting the world know what you are looking for.

The alu engines are very robust, so yours is probably still out there somewhere. When you have the engine number from the CoA or Kardex (better because as mentioned gives you more useful information), you can start looking for it and put the info in the "lost and found thread": http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...d-Found-Thread
BUT: Very few people remember what engine numbers they had in their cars 10-20-30 years ago, so information about the car is also important to help people remember.
I would start a thread about your project and start tracking the cars history. If you find out when and where the engine was removed, it should increase your chances of finding it.
You never know who is watching here, magic do happen!

I found mine, but I am in Australia and our community is far smaller, i suspect.
I bought my car as an engine-less ex-racer that had been in a shed for around 19 years. I went back to trace who had originally separated the car from its engine and with help of the Australia Typ 901 Forum, was able to trace what happened to both the car and the engine. Took me about 3 months, but I was very lucky. Was able to purchase the engine, which is now being rebuilt and will hopefully be reunited with the fully rebuild body in a couple of months.
So take heart, it can be done.... If you are lucky.

This is the situation where you would "rather be lucky than good!"
Good luck! Let us know how you do.
