SWB Front headlight Support "J" Tube - Question

    Hi,

I am at the point of fabricating the above but have a few questions, if anybody can help please.

    1. what is the length, diameter and wall thickness of the tube that attaches to the body?
    2. what does the body tube look like in the front fuel tank compartment (picture ideally)?
3 any pictures of the total assembly and area would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks TN

if you are willing to pay the $$ for postage, i can send you a rusted one, so that you can take measurements for yourself and assure accuracy of your fabrication.

i might have saved a body tube from a scrap assembly. if i saved the body tube, i will send it to you (if you want it). let me know and i will look for it. i appreciate what you are trying to do. groups like this (Early 911S Registry) are good places to support the efforts of the members.

I'm doing the same repair. I just purchased the Front Inner fender repair piece from Restoration-Design this last Monday. They just started selling these. I need to fabricate the same piece(s), and understand what that tube looks like from the inside. I will look on the Factory Repair Manual diagram of the White Body of the SWB 911/912. It has a lot of dimensions, but I don't know if that tube is on it... Post some pictures and measurements if you make progress, and I will do the same.........When I got my '66 911 it had both of the J tubes replaced with a larger J tube that was welded directly to the inner fender. They looked like two horns.........

Scaling from this it looks like the tube is about 70 - 75mm long and 30mm diameter. I wish I could get these measurements from an actual part..........

Hopefully these pictures show what you need. I can try and get wall thickness and Id of the tube tomorrow if you need it.
