    901 R part numbers

I am disassembling a 901/05 engine, s/n 907029. According to the little spec book and to Porsche's 1968 Information Regarding Porsche Vehicles Used for Sports Purposes, many of the parts on my engine don't exist. Every part on the top end has an "R" designator either in the revision designator or as a prefix to the part number:

    Carburetors are 40IDATR 3C/3C1
    intake manifolds are 901.108.321.1R
    Cam towers are 901.105.111.0R
    Camshafts are 901.105.105.109.0R and 110.0R
    Cylinder heads are R901.104.303.04

    So what is this beastie?

    thanks,
    Pete

I think what you're seeing are the casting numbers.

    Ditto
The R that you are seeing has nothing to do with 911R race parts.
I can't recall any race part with R on it.
Casting numbers are for that particular piece of an assembly and frequently aren't listed separately.
Sometimes the numbers are the same if the individual part has no further parts added to become an assembly.
Even then, frequently the R takes the place of further modifications. (the last two numbers of a part number is the modification)
    i.e. 901 (type) 105 (group) 103 (part) 00 (modification)

Dear Ed, Bernie and Harvey, thanks. I knew it wasn't even close to an R engine. I guess 20 years in the 356 world dulled my 911 senses. Stock early 911 with later 40IDT (typo on my original post) carbs, although the IDTR designation on them is still kind of unusual. Actually a good thing since its a known baseline.
Dear Troll, enjoy your miserable life.

Poor guy. Only two posts into his experience and has already turned to the dark side.
