Parts selling 101 or "Back off Sucka! I WAS FIRST!"

I have noticed of late a propensity for parts sellers to advertise their treasures simultaneously on more than one site.

Besides carpet bombing the marketplace what is the reason for this? It's counterproductive, and all it seems to do is confuse buyer's priority chain. It turns what should be a pleasant experience into a pissing match. Or worse; having a jaundiced eye cast in their direction the next time they advertise.

May I suggest that those who pitch their tent here even occasionally post on ESR first then try Plan B if the item doesn't sell right away?

+1 Frank. Or at least choose one or the other.

Seems easy to determine who is first regardless of multiple platforms since everything is time stamped. Up to seller to review and honor interested parties based on documented time of interest.

Agreed. Reaching the largest market makes the most sense as a seller. If that seller chooses to sort out the details of who came first, that's their prerogative. This is an open marketplace and to be frank, Frank, all the griping relating to timing is completely moot if PM's are allowed.

Yeah!!! There should be a rule like "If you want to buy a part advertised publicly on the forum, then you should state it publicly. If not, you'll be hung high and low by the testicles until death"

This is a very un pleasant experience when you think you got it, and the seller replies you that you're third in line... And this would also solve the "back bidding" problem!
Put a price, and then, if someone hit the button, it's done!

There should also be a rule stating that it is not allowed to delete the asking price when sold. Maybe this could lower the problem of the "what is it worth " (for which I have been guilty) problem.

This one should not harm any tender body area IMHO

There should also be a feedbeck system for the sales.

There should also be a button that when I hit it there is some hot coffee bleeding from any of the USB port of my computer...

Frank, I hope these are not too much "rules breaking" for a noob! ;-)

    Read again!

BTW, sorry for the feedbeck typo. There was of course some pun intended!

That's been my MO for years. ESR for a couple of weeks and then PP or vice versa. It also depends on the parts for sale and knowing my audience. Never understoood why anyone would submit themselves to the added grief of maintaining identical threads on several sites.

I made this very same mistake. I posted some wheels for sale on both Pelican and early S. It was absolute chaos. I had people private messaging me who didn't post publicly. I kept having to go back and forth between the two sites to determine who contacted me first. I never should have posted on both sites at the same time and have learned my lesson. when I ended up selling the wheels to somebody who private messaged me without going to the public board it upset a couple of other people. I'll never do that again. in fact, I may require that they post a public response before private messaging me. I didn't like the insinuations that I was less than honest.
