i appreciate the feedback. i've spoken to harvey a couple of times and i agree with the consensus.
just to provide some context, the articles i'm writing for ESSES magazine ('resurrection of 001') are focused here in indiana (and subsequently, the midwest), so it seemed appropriate to inquire to determine whether there were/are service providers east of the Rockies. the Porsche marque is strong on this side of the mountains.
Most of my customers are on the East coast. The second largest group is in California. I ship/receive international almost weekly all over the world.
Shipping is shipping.....2 days or a week. Being close to a supplier is a rare opportunity. I have more than a dozen current customers in Indiana. Many more in Chicago area and Michigan.
BTW, I have known Al longer than anyone having set up his business for him in 1979. I have 5 sets here currently that Al just couldn't get to in a timely fashion so the customers sent them to me?
He has his favorites and does them sooner than others....
You'll find anyone that is even remotely good in the Porsche restoration business is very busy and frequently way backed up.
Not too many full restorations take less than a year...even with careful through planning.

now that harvey has entered the discussion directly, frankly, i am very satisfied with the outcome and the original inquiry. sometimes you find undiscovered talent, like the guys at Indianapolis Fabrications and Whit Maletic, and sometimes you find that the best are just the best, regardless of location. even then, it is still good to open the community discussion.
Harvey, i haven't been able to get the shipping arranged for getting thr wheels to you, but they will be there as soon as i can get the boxes sealed and deliver them to fedex.
thanks, everyone.
