Hello Everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself and tell the story of my car. A few months ago a great guy called Mark Eiferle parted with his 911 for health reasons, he had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer and had a few months to live. To finance his bucket list, he sold the car to me and I took possession of it; out of luck, the universe conspiring or me actually saying with all my mind and heart "I will own an early 70s 911 one day" Well it happened quicker than I thought it would.
This car was the product of 13 years of effort of a man with a dream, starting with a California Aubergine 911T. He put countless hours to the project, restoring every nut and bolt, paint, Upholstery, suspension by Elephant, all the interior, and the engine; an Andial Bored 3.0 SC out to 3.2 built by Jerry Woods, it has 250 wheel hp. A 923 gearbox with Quaife LSD, Wevo shifter and OEM RS flares with S front lip. Finished and painted in his garage in california by a real pro, OEM German grand prix white. So feeling so fortunate I wanted to do something special for Mark before he passed (previous owner/builder) and contacted Chuck Moreland who in turn contacted Cris Huergas. One Friday afternoon Cris called Mark on the phone to make him an RGruppe member, Mark was weak and could not talk much but we were told later by his wife that he could not stop smiling. The next morning Mark passed away.
I want to thank Chuck and Cris publicly for doing such a solid gesture. I did not know Mark much but I didn't have to, we met for a few hours but that was enough. I am now the custodian of this creation which is a total joy to drive and wanted to share the story and the pictures.
I have 3 other aircooled 911's ('85 911, '90 964 cab and '96 993 Coupe) but this is definitely the most fun to drive and the most special, by far. I did the carpet, Porsche stripes, grill badges, steering wheel, 917 shift knob, talbot mirror and a few other things...
Great Group of people you have here on this forum, happy to be a new member.
Any R Gruppe members in Texas or Houston ? I'd like to meet you and go for a drive some day...
Best,
Antonio
