Help: Cibie Pallas bonnet mounting problem

I'm hoping someone can help me please and surely I'm not the first person to find this problem. My bodywork guy is fitting a pair of the repro Cibie Pallas lights to the bonnet of my RS replica.

He has encountered a problem which I hope you can help me with. See the photographs below.

When we try to mount the light body on the bonnet it points up into the air. The base angle appears to be wrong. To get the light pointing forward it would appear to need a significant bespoke angled spacer to make it flat ! The 2nd photos shows it would need to be angled up approximately 10mm at the rear.

I figure someone must have encountered this before :?:

    Am I missing something ?
Is it normal to have to fit a spacer to fit these lights to the bonnet ?
    Does anyone make/sell a suitable spacer ?

The angle of the base would seem to suit mounting above the horn grills better but I'm not aware there were 2 different varieties of these lights (one for bonnet mounting and one for wing mounting) ?

My bodywork guy wants to get on with fitting the lights on Monday so any experience of this problem would be much appreciated. Does it really need a spacer to get the angle right !!!??

    Thanks
    Andrew

I've got two cars with them. Your car is on a dolly of some sort, it doesn't appear to be level, I think that is your problem.

The lights are lined up with the headlight level as I think they should be.
As you say it looks like the car isn't quite level but can't imagine that would account for about 10mm gap over the length of the base of the light.

When mounting the lights on the bonnet has anyone else found that the body ends up pointing upwards into the air slightly ? Does anyone have any pictures of similar lights on their car looking directly from the side showing the same angle ?

    Thankyou

    Thanks
That would appear to be what I need.
Anyone know where to buy spacers or will I have to make something up ?#

What I can't understand is why some cars seem to need them and others don't !!

Due to the slope of the hood placement matters. It looks like the 'R' car has the lights more rearward.

My pictures show the Cibie replica lined up with the headlight level which is roughly where they are supposed to be mounted and the same as the orange 911 pictured above.
Pulling them further forward helps fractionally but nowhere near solves the problem. It would need a full 10mm angled sopacer to make them point straight !

Attachment 348673Attachment 348673You're not alone......I faced this with my '67 S project. I believe one can get the adjustment angle right if the lights are mounted low enough on the hood. However, I didn't like the low mount and positioned them higher. I didn't discover the adjustment angle problem until AFTER the car was painted! I came up with the spacer idea as in the 1st photograph...mine are made out of phenolic plastic and painted to match. Later I discovered the same solution was used on 911R #17, 2nd photo. It's not the tidiest solution, but if it was good enough for one of the 911Rs, it's good enough for me! I believe the lights will be more effective mounted slightly higher.
