    early engine grille dissasembly

Im trying to restore the engine grill on my 67 Im currently disassembling it and Im down to the outer pair of ribs that hold the mesh grille. They are held together by what appear to me to be some press together rivets/snaps. Does anyone have experience removing them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got that far in taking mine apart and then decided my skill level didn't extend further, so I cleaned, polished and reassembled. I will be interested to see what others have to say...

That would be great if you could find a source for the rivets. I havent been able to find a match of the oem fasteners. I believe they are called double face rivets or double cap rivets.

Thanks Haul. Of course I tend to be on the anal side. I think what is needed is a double capped/faced brass rivet. Plane faced, 8mm diameter with a 7mm long post. I have so far found many variations on the diameter/post configuration that are close but nothing that is 8 by 7. Still on the hunt for the correct part. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. I did check McMasters Carr and what I found wasnt really very close at all.

Seems like it will be tough to source black anodized rivets with the correct dome head for the '72/3 grilles.. Anybody have a source?

This looks sooooo nice, not torn or broken, no scratch even so to see! It needs no replacement and I would therefore not disassemble it!! Just clean the ribs and inbetween the ribs with a toothbrush, dental floss, etc and metal polish. Worked perfect for me!
