re assembley question 2 parts , seals and door hardware 68

car all painted , polished , in re assembly , been disassembled for a while , so memory and old picture no good

part1, seal, bought new rear bumper to body seal from porsche , how it is finished , the front one have some nice end cap, went to parts book , no mention of anything, see pictures, how is that finished,

second question: door hardware, , the door latch, there is what seems like 2 identical pieces, 100% interchangeable, which is right , one is M5 tread , the other M6

    thanks

If memory serves me, they give you extra length on the bumper piece and you cut to fit. Sorry can't help with the door part.

hi Mark , i figured out the cutting and i have about 1 inch on each side , but if it stay open , OMG , what a crap finish , i went to see reference picture of a concourse car and it was open ( and on the front ) , but in the picture i have an other small seal , which i believe is the front , but you can see a nice tip to the end

Yes I agree, should not be open, but the ones I have seen are open. Doesn't seem right. I have seen later models w a molded end cap. I don't know enough about when and if there were transitions. I believe my 73 is molded. The 65 was not.

ok , Richy, let me deepen the mystery

in the PET , illustration 802-10 , the seal is part# 901 505 092 20 ( thats what i ordered) i can post a picture of the bag , and i still have the other side still in a sealed bag to confirm

then on illustration 802-15 , same picture same image , it now list 2 different seal , this time , its 093 20 and 094 20

both illustration have the same description

when there is a serial # cut off, or MY cut off it is usually indicated but nothing there , I would gladly hear the explanation

when i shop for parts i usually dont rely on supplier description as if it fits they will list it , so what wrong with my PET

    thanks

My mistake . The seal in the car is correct for a SWB . The seal in you hand is correct for a LWB car . I know the latch with the 5mm is used through '71 . The 6mm is used in '73 . Don't know about '72 . A '73 door has bigger countersinks for the larger hardware .

It is the same part but some suppliers, such as International Mercatile have you glue the pieces together with the front center piece to build your own front. It worked well for me but was a bit of a surprise that I had to do it.

If you clean the door latches then you will find the manufacturing date stamp (month/year).
