So.... I wonder how he made his money.... Great article, maybe next time they could focus a little more on things that matter (like those injured, eyewitness account, what will be done to fix the situation) and less on his three supercars.

Looking at the video of the passenger ride just before the accident, I'm thinking that driver fatigue was a major factor in this tragedy. You can see that when the passenger climbs in, the 918's windshield is heavily fogged -- suggesting that the day was likely hot and humid. A 55-year old driver, dressed in black, in an open car, pulling massive g's over and over in a car that almost drives itself. The reports say that he put a wheel onto the grass. All that it takes is a momentary lapse of concentration and Newton's Laws take over.

I fervently hope that everyone recovers quickly and fully from their injuries.

If a driver is going to give thrill rides or engage in showboating, why is it soooo difficult to make sure spectators are protected? The entity or sanctioning body that sponsored this event should be held responsible as well.

"Planning for the worst and hoping for the best" should be the order of the day for these circus side shows.

Anyone remember the young female passenger who was hurt when the McLaren crashed during the VARA event at Tustin? ('99 I think?) The poor girl "won" a thrill ride.

    She definitely got one.

Agreed. A sure sign of a wannabee driver is a lack of situational awareness. An experienced driver would easily be able to pre-run the course at civilian speeds and envision where things could go wrong and where the car would likely end up. It is then up to the driver to make sure no one is in harm's way, regardless of the event organizer plans. It's either safe or you don't drive. Simple.
