    Bosch black coils

In a recent sale here a Bosch black coil was sold bearing the standard Bosch black coil numbers of 0 221 121 001. It is the number that is below that one that I'm curious about. On that coil, the number 907 was understood to be July, 1969 production. I recognized that is the same coil still on my engine. However, the 3 digit code on mine is 130, and another person has posted one that has numbers of 923. If these are truly dates of manufacture, how are they interpreted? Did Bosch date their coils in a similar way to their MFI pumps in that beginning in the 70's the month code began at 21 for January? That would explain mine in that my car was built in 1/72 so 130, would be Oct. of '71 production but that doesn't explain the 923 coil.

Jon B. posted this Bosch chart just recently.

The coil pictured is indeed Oct. 71, the 9 23 is March 79

Wow, thank you very much. It's all right there in the chart. Seems Bosch used that dating system for everything they dated.

That old coil of yours with the cracked Bakelite is probably beyond use. You aren't planning on using it - are you?

Bosch ignition capacitors (condensers) were date coded as well.
Here is an original capacitor from an early 911, manufactured in 1967...

    Thanks John.
I didn't think that "056" capacitors like yours were original to early 911's, but if so, I've got quite a few.
How about an October '65 date code for a '66 911?

This is my coil. The date is December 1972 which is correct for a 1973.5 car. I love that chart.
