Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz

On Thursday Janis Joplin's cabrio 356 sold at auction for 1.8 Mil in New York. If you remember it had one of those flower power psychodelic paint jobs.

I thought it was going across the block over the weekend. It sure beat the estimate of $400k - $600k pretty handily.

I can't imagine the buyer if this car has any concerns about ROI

But this wasn't even the period paint job... so the value must be in the provenance? I get the McQueen bubble, to some extent, but never thought Joplin was quite there... maybe someone else can chime in to enlighten me!!!

Joplin's car crosses over several collecting groups- rock, female singers, pushrod cars, old folks...
