Has anyone pulled the trigger on a 904 Replica?

I've always loved the 904. Probably the prettiest Porsche ever designed. But I will never own a real one, and love the idea of driving one without worrying about someone breathing on it wrong. I've done some research and by my count, there are 3 players and one piece of vaporware.

Beck 904 (http://www.beck904.com and http://www.beckspeedster.com) - I gather that Beck has stopped producing and marketing these himself, and that production has now moved to Special Edition, Inc. in Indiana. $60K for a roller, $75K for completed car. No idea about build quality.
Rock West Racing RW GTS (https://www.rockwestracing.com/store...r-kits/rw-gts/) - San Diego / El Cajon. Formally a ThunderRanch product. Deluxe - $47K, Roller - $78K. Emphasis on originality, at least in their marketing material.
Technic 904 GTS (http://www.904gts.co.uk) - A UK company. 55000 British pounds for finished car minus engine / trans.

Gullwing America's P/904 (http://www.gwa-tuning.com/p_porsche_904.html) - Vaporware (but really pretty vaporware) 904 inspired body kit on a Gen 2 Boxster.

Have any of you purchased a 904 replica and can you comment on the build quality, process of working with the company, etc? Nervous about pulling the trigger. Please share your stories, good or bad.

    Thanks.
    -B.

The quality of the UK GTS ones are supperb, some have been given FIA race papers they are so good. Apparently there is a long waiting time. Regarding the one based on a Boxster it's a way to go but not for me, I'd want one built on a correct chassis just like the originals.

On Pelican in the off topic forum there's a thread called "My next project is a ..." or something to that effect. A great read. The guy just got the engine running if I remember correctly.

    edit: here it is http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-t...t-project.html

Thanks for that pointer, Flieger. That led to an early911sregistry thread about a M&W build: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...-build-thread-...

I elected to build my own, rather than buy one, and when I'm done it's still a Porsche. You can read about it here:

It won't be a Porsche, it will be a 914!

Dennis Frick, in eastern PA, built a 904 (914/6) years ago. It was finished as the '65 Monte Carlo car.
It was good enough and Porsche enough to be displayed at a Porsche Parede Concours.

Yeah, but a 914 chassis with RSR suspension and a Weber Carbed 3.2.

Gts in the uk is the way to go,have seen the others no comparison.
There is one of the six duel cars made for sale over here also with a trick proper spec 2.0 ltr etc.
Something interesting for you,if its good enough for a porsche family member it should be good enough for yourself.
I have one ordered with roll cage and fia papers etc to be.
    Hope this helps.

    Hello,
what kind of 904 did you order?
One from Martin&Walker in UK or one from Duel in Netherland.
    Does Duel still produce 904s?

My 904 is from Martin & Walker and hast an HTP pass for racing.

    Thanks
    Stefan
