    67 bucket seat restoration help

I have been able to find a nice sports bucket seat which would have been an option for an early swb car back in 67/68. As you can see from the pictures I basically have the shell so my plans are to restore the seat using perforated vinyl and corduroy so it matches my 68 sports recaro seat. I am trying to source the correct rivets which would have been used, can anyone help me in sourcing these. The holes on the seat where the rivets would be located are largely 5mm in diameter, however there are a few others which are ~7mm I assume these have been made slightly larger for some reason by a previous owner.

I have provided some pictures of a similar original seat from another thread on this registry, these show the rivets that I need to source.

    Thanks

Mark, is this what your looking for, Recaro used a plastic rivet to hold the upholstery to the fiberglass shell. Once installed the center pin is pushed in flush with the head and it locks the rivet in place, your different size holes may have been from drilling out the old rivets.

    Hi Ernie

not really sure what i'm looking for here, from the pictures I have seen of original sport bucket seats the rivets look metallic to me. would like to understand more of the plastic rivet you have referenced above

    thanks

    Mark,
you may have seen metal rivets on Recaro seats, since pop rivets are easy to find as a replacement if the originals were removed. The original Recaro plastic type rivets took me some time to find. In your photo, i've added the red arrows which point to the plastic rivets, 2 are shown in the photo, If I remember, the seat has 3 per side. The green arrow points to the metal grommets (eyelets) they hold the upholstery down to the inside of the fiberglass shell, also allow air circulation. The second photo shows the original Recaro rivets (off white color) removed from a 1970 Recaro racing bucket seat. The plastic rivets hold the upholstery and the cable thats inside the upholstery, to the shell.
