routing a new wire for the big oil pressure idiot light

I got a clock replacing big red idiot light for the dash and am about to order a http://www.egauges.com/150-PSI-10-Ba...-p/360-023.htm sender for the warning light and gauge, but how the heck do I get a new wire from the engine bay to the light?

There should already be an extra wire in the harness for sporto temp gauge usage. Look for a green wire behind the gauge cluster.

I found it at the gauges but I can't find it in the engine compartment.

For what year car? 67? If 67 then start looking around the left rear shock tower, that was the closest to the temp sender it would have plugged into.

Ed wins again. Green wire found. At first it was a false positive since I didn't have continuity to the green wire in the dash...but after cutting back the engine harness tape I found a connection which was duff. Never underestimate the unseen!

While waiting for my spot at the paint shop for my 68 sporto I've been sorting out the wiring for the gauges (which were just cleaned and calibrated at NHS). With a green wire coming from the sporto pressure sensor and a green/red wire from the engine pressure sensor do I just truncate the engine wire? And, where does the green wire that connects to the sporto 'Switch' end up.

I'm not clear on what you're asking??? If you have a sporto oil temp gauge the green wire goes to the warning light part of the temp gauge. The sporto sender is for temp, not pressure. The green/red wire goes to the oil pressure gauge, the other end plugs onto the oil pressure sender back by the breather cover. Is this what you're asking???

I have three sets of wires. 1. Green (previously unused), which I use at the front of the engine for a patrick motorsports pressure idiot light 2. Green/Red for oil pressure (S console) 3. Green/black for oil temp.

Ed, this is what I have. A 68 Sportomatic in a 911 Normal. On the torque converter there are two electrical connectors, a push on connector and a bullet connector. According to the PET the bullet connector (with green/black wire) is the ‘Switch’ for an overheat indicator and the push on connector (with a green wire) is for the oil temperature. However, the factory manual reverses these connections. This will be resolved once the engine is installed. But, the ‘Switch’ wire has no place to go. The oil pressure/temperature gauge has two indicator lights, top and bottom. The bottom indicator is the generator light and the top indicator is the parking brake light. The other gauges have indicators appropriate for those gauges. This is a Karmann car built in 7/68. There are other variations from the factory documents. This car has no over temperature indicator. Like the original poster I may need to add an additional indicator for this purpose. The wiring is there but no indicator lamp.
