Jeez, I send an email saying Im considering an Alfa 4C and Alfa ads appear on the Early S site. A subtle reminder that our emails are not real private.

I usually get that when I do a search on google, has never happened with an email.

its cookies tracking you .. mucho of them as well ..
Since you desire the Alfa, you probable visited a website related to the car or a review of the car or clicked and expanded a picture of the car. BAM! You are profiled as a person interested in the car and they will make sure you are reminded about how much you like it. ( I get Rolex ads on the registry)http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...knows-you.html
PS Sniffing phone calls and Emails is illegal, only our government gets to do that and deny it (CIA)
I was in an Apple Store yesterday, and handled a Bang & Olfsen speaker and today I get an email from them! Granted , I have bought a Bluetooth from them in the past, about 10 yrs ago....also have visited their web. I've heard stores are capable to determine which rack customers browse and send text to you in store!
To err is human; to blame it on someone else is more human...

If he was using gmail it will as Google scans emails for key words.
Also, if you use Waze that tracks you 24/7 even when not using it unless you disable it under Location Services to Never versus Always (most apps have Only When In Use). Uber does the same rotten thing.
Waze and Nest are owned by Google. (And are suponeable by law enforcement, showing your trip and speed)
Combined with Nest etc, these are all aggregated into a revealing profile of you, including your IP address.
There is no privacy unless you break the Google and Facebook usage.
Switch your search engine as non trackable one's exist, but frankly Google is better. GoDuckGO or something like that is user privacy friendly.
Check into an ad blocker program. I see how many ads are being blocked on each site I go to. My unwanted ads are greatly reduced.
Depending on your system, try using a system cleaner. I have a Mac. I use Clean My Mac. It doesnt remove malware or viruses but does flush browser caches, removes junk and helps with system file maintenance. For nastier problems I will run ClamX.
If you use Facebook, whether on your computer or phone, ALWAYS close it when done. FB harvests browswer cache for your searches to target ads to you.
If you have an anonymous feature with your internet browser, try using that.
Try to reboot/restart AT LEAST once a week.
Doing these things helps. Not perfect but definately helps.

Now many websites can detect an ad blocker and will not let you browse their sites.
I have adopted an attitude. If I have to watch a commercial or answer a survey to see a page, I am Out. I close it and forget there was anything there I wanted to see.
There's a TV show on these days called "Hunted"... It'll give you a starting point as to
who can find out where you are and what your up to.
