    H4 headlight mystery

    Gents-

We are having an issue with the H4 headlights on my recently completed ST build. When the low beams are on they are dimmer than they should be and the blue high beam indicator in the tach glows a faint to medium blue. The high beams seem fine, they are bright and the blue indicator works, and glows brighter than when the low beams are on. I know the turn signal/high beam switch is good (its new). We are not running the headlights through a separate relay; my mechanic thinks this isn't needed. Any input on what may be causing this and how to deal with it would be appreciated. Thanks,

Install the relays. My H4's were doing similar things.
Installing the j-west relay kit improved them immensely.
There is a lot of current running through very small contacts in the switch, better off to eliminate ithe load and have them just do the relay switching.

Thanks. My gut was to install the relays in the first place. I just ordered a kit from J West per your suggestion. I'll report back.

Good call on getting the relays.
One other thing to look at while you wait for delivery:
I had to adjust my brand new turn signal hi/lol switch as it was chattering from hi to low when on low beam and hitting a bump in the road!
I tweaked the metal bridge just a little as described in the linked thread on Pelican forums. It has been perfect since.

Since the car was just put together I'd double check the wires into the headlight plug, they may be in wrong order.

Ed- checked and rechecked the wires to assure they were correct. I'd read a few threads on Pelican where wires were swapped resulting in dim low beams. I was hoping it was this simple.
