Known as a fantastic place to live...and for retirement.

Emigrating there is possible as long as the wealth you bring is substantial > 1mil. But maybe that's a good thing. James Cameron has a pad there.

Good luck to the Kiwis in the Americas Cup. My brief research says they are favored. I haven't followed it many years, but recall my father always rooting for the Cup to go to the unfairly-disadvantaged non-US teams. I sailed with my Dad to Bermuda when I was in high school, where it is to take place this year.

There is also farmer and inventor Richard Pearse. He was developing aircraft at the same time as the Wright brothers. He was a modest fellow and never made claims of achieving flight nine months before Wilbur and Orville. I think the key was achieving a controlled sustained flight which was achieved by the Wright brothers and never really challenged by Pearse.

    Yep.
Kiwi's definitely have the DNA going for them.

John Britten is my all time hero Kiwi gear head. Absolutely amazing man. Right behind Glenn Curtis in ingenuity and bravado.

Yes John Britten,,so hard to believe its 22years since he passed,, One of his bikes is in our National Museum in Wellington and even 2.5 decades later it still looks futuristic.
We have from all of our countries such wonderful sportsmen and women, designers , engineers and enlightened humans both past and living and this is what makes this little world wonderful.

Agreed Frank! Glenn Curtiss is one of the great unsung innovators of aviation, and much more. If you ever have a rainy day at the Glen, get over to Hammondsport to the museum. http://www.glennhcurtissmuseum.org (that's if you're not racing Frank in the rain instead!)

There's also a good book by Seth Schulman, Unlocking the Sky.
