Hope the collective wisdom here can help me.

I am getting ready to start on my engine rebuild and got the JE pistons and rings I bought some time ago out this last weekend with the intention of setting the ring end gaps. My cylinders have been bored and Nickasyld by EBS to 3.1915. The pistons are 3.189. The rings the gap before any dressing is .0022 on all rings instead of the .0014-16 recommended by JE. I have e-mailed JE and get the below response

"I am going to explain your ring situation, and I would like you to first understand that your gaps are good and ok.
The main problem is that your bore is the wrong size.
But you are still ok, as this particular ring set is designed to gap larger than your targets.
The top ring usually comes in at .019”- .022” out of the box, and the second ring .022”-.025” out of the box.
You can proceed with the numbers that I have outlined."

I believe my bore size is fine as it allows for .0015-.002 of piston to cylinder clearance. The gaps specified at .022-.025 I believe will give a lot of blow by. What is the collective experience with ring end gaps when setting up JE pistons?

Many thanks,

JK
