Will soon have my car back from restoration and plan to drive it sunny days etc. Are any of the new films and other paint protection systems effective and lacking in long-term negative impacts?? Which is the best??

I'd just keep wax on it.
Ask the guy that restored it.

Just put a bra on it for long drives, take it off after trip. Use one of the simple ones, not the kind that wraps around the hood.

I would be very nervous about applying applying any film to an air dried re-paint...no matter the quality. Adhesion can be variable with air dried (not heat cured) paint.
You might get the film on and have your paint come off with the film when tome comes to R & R the film.

I'll break the train here and vote for clear film...full front clip protection done on all my PCARS....new or old...and if done by a top installer with today's best film, it is invisible. Just comes down to how much you care/value your fresh paint...some think it is a badge of honor to have road rash...just not my thing. Remember too that only installing it on half the hood and fenders - or the use of a bra - will only cover half the front end, and those flying rocks coming at you will eventually find the unprotected area. I agree that an 'oven' baked paint finish is what you want (and should be getting with a high-end repaint where the spray booth is doing the 'baking'). Never had a 'paint pull' situation, but good insurance if needed is to have the installer use some steam before pulling the film.

Thanks for responses. Paint will have had a good year to cure B4 hitting the road so it should be pretty tough. But not as tough as flying shrapnel.

Was at a shop recently to advise/consult and they recommended a ceramic coat instead of a film (they do both). I was planning on that route until I managed to have a flying hubcap take a chunk out of my fiberglass front bumper. Not sure anything would have prevented the damage other than maybe R compound rubber...

6 months ago after losing counting at more than 300 stone chips on my hood and front bumper I got them both resprayed ( gemini blu )
Im starting to count again
I dont really care and I cannot handle bra's on car's ( if you know what I mean)
Its only paint.
Mark
I guess I'm lucky but every car I paint for myself doesn't seem to get one chip. I am careful not to tailgate though. I wouldn't bother with film and I'm familiar with installing it.
