Rare original 100 liters gas tank

    Hi,

Original 100 liters tank in really good condition. No dent, no bump under, just surface rust. Original gauge included, but missing metal cover on it. The tank will need internal clean up and restoration. I went thru the archive and they are not often coming on the market... Asking 6300 USD or best offer, plus shipping from NY12919. Will ship anywhere at buyer expenses. (This is 600$ less than Frank's tank sold last year...)

I know, I know, there is plenty of cheap repro available on the market ; but there is nothing like original and if you have a high value S, R, ST, T/R or a nice Sport purpose built... you know you cannot put a Dansk repro tank in your car

It's the right period of the year for a nice gift from you to you ! Or a good reason to spend your year end bonus on old Porsche parts !

    Merry Christmas !

Looks like a great tank, LWB version with larger breather tube. Looks like the original finish which gives me more confirmation that these tanks were painted black on the trunk side and undercoated on the bottom.... need to undercoat the bottom of the one I restored. A secondary benefit of the large tank is - when full handling improves. GLWTS, a super rare part indeed. Dansk repro... haha like like all other crappy Dansk parts, fits bad & easy to spot the fake.

Too bad about the kink in the sending unit.

I know that Nick at Specialty Cars in PA can re-tube it for you...

For the record...what's the several thousand dollar difference between an original and the Dansk??

The fender fill neck mis-alignment on the 60 liter tanks is well known...same on the 100 liter? What else?

That's EZ; One is real and the other is fake.

Some people simply don't want repro parts when they have the means to buy the real thing... if the real thing is available. In that case it's always nice to buy repro parts that are actually built accurately.

IF I had an original car that called for one, I'd be a buyer.

The Kurz Hessental tanks are accurate since they made the original blow molded RSR/ST/RS tanks. The original K. Kurz Hessental logo is gone as is the date but at approximately $3,000+ for a re-issue vs. "$15K" for an "original", the re-issue makes sense in an RSR/ST/RS clone. The RS tanks are the same blow molded affair and can be had too.

Once you know the difference between the right way and the repro you can not go back.

ALL of the Dansk metal items I have ever used are not precise. Fenders and quarter panels need significant metal work to make them fit like an original part, sometimes it’s impossible. I have seen so many cars with very expensive paint and crappy replaced metal underneath that can no longer be adjusted once the car is finished. Most don’t know, then guys like the experts on this board point out the issue at a cars and coffee and the owner is left staring at imperfection, that hurts.

One of my friends bought a Dansk tank, when I saw it out of the box the first time without even comparing to an original I could tell the stamping shape was not true to original, they “eyeballed” the shape.
