    Early 73S 915 Question

Curious to know if any early 73S cars might have come with a '72 style 915 shifter.
It seems mine might have. Anyone else have this in one of their cars? My car also had factory LSD. Not sure if that would matter.
    Thanks again.

Don't know the answer to your question but there was a 915 short-shifter avilable. I beleive it was available with later year models.<script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/52936aae/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/52936aae/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>

If you are enquiring about the floor part of the 915 shifter assembly. I believe, but can not fully recall that the change to the high boot assembly came in the first months of the 73 production. So it depends on your date of manufacture. I am sure there are others with more knowledge here that may comment.

10/72 build date. Really need to get some confirmation from others with early '73 build date I suppose.

The factory Workshop Manual states "Gear Shift Assembly Effective With 1973 Models"... "Beginning with the 1973 models, a new pressure-cast shift lever housing is installed in all Type 911 vehicles with a 5-speed transmission."
This might imply that it was not used in 73 models with 4-speed transmissions.
However, in the factory Spare Parts Catalogue, 911 Modell 1972/73, it doesn't note a difference between 73 4-speed or 5-speed applications. The illustrations are clearly marked "Mod. 72" and "Mod. 73".

When changes occurred during a model year, the manuals usually noted the change by production date or by chassis numbers. I don't see any evidence of a mid-year transition in the manuals with these shift lever assemblies.

This is good info. Maybe I need to look for a '73 style tower shifter. Interesting that my car had a change out
from a '73 to a '72 at some point in its history. Maybe some others will chime in on this.

Why is that Ed? I have had both, and liked the later one better, because it had less play in it. I had a 71 with a 911 transmission and a reversed 73- shifter, which was also an improvement for the same reason.

Fifth is easier to get with the 72 style.
