    Replacing trip odometer cable assembly

The trip odo cable in my 71 is shot (pushing up on the knob will not reset it). I got a good replacement and will yank the speedo out soon. My question is, can this be replaced without tearing the speedo apart.? hopjng it s an easy repair and any help is appreciated.

The knob should be turned to reset trip mileage, not pushed. If you still need to replace the cable, it just pushes into the back of the speedo, a plastic grommet at the end of the cable sticks into the case. The other end with the knob has a threaded end that fastens in the hole.
