    Sport Seat Base Seat Belt Receiver Extension

    I noticed that the attachment point for the seat belt receiver on Double Locker sport seat bases is different than for Single Locker bases (at least the images that I have found).

    For the Double Locker base, the receiver attachment point is higher due to and extension welded to the base as shown in the photo below:

    For the Single Locker base, the receiver attachment point is lower due to the lack of the extension:

    Question 1: Does the extension coincide with the move to the newer style seat belt receivers for 1972 & 1973? And if that's the case, this must mean that there are Single Locker bases out there that have the welded extension for '72 and early '73 cars?

    Question 2: Would the use of a '73 receiver on a tilt base without the extension make it difficult to access the receiver (yes, this is my situation)? If yes, any concerns with simply fabricating my own extension, and bolting it to the base where the receiver would normally attach? Does somebody already make these?

    Your assumption is correct; the tab is related to the 2.4 style seat belt receptacle and yes, the single locking 72 frames used these.

    As for a weld on tab? Never seen one offered but it's not difficult to fab them. Start with flat stock, bore a hole, and weld in a machined bushing for the receptacle to pivot on.

    Hi Frank,

    Thanks for confirming. I'll make my own extension piece, but plan to simply bolt it to the base at the original receiver point instead of welding, so that the bases can be used with either style of receivers in the future.

    You mention the use of a bushing at the receiver bore - do the factory bases have this? I have the CarPoint bases, and they simply have a nut welded to the panel for the receiver bolt.

    Look at the circled tab in your top pic. The receiver has a fairly large hole that centers over that round protruding "flange". Once the shoulder bolt and wave washer are tightened it still allows the receiver to swivel properly.
    I've never studied CarPoint frames but I'm surprised that they missed this fairly important detail.

    BTW: The "flange" is threaded so there's no need for a nut. Welded or otherwise.
