I couldn't find the sports car of my dreams, so I built it myself-Ferdinand Porsche
It has to do with the tabs, the wire entry point, and the bolt hole for the fender support. With the advent of the sugar scoop lights in 68 the mounting tabs were required which the grey one has (or at least two of them) The grey one has the bolt hole on the bottom for the bucket to fender support bolt, and it has a single entry hole on the back side for the harness to enter, since the park light harness leg runs off before the harness enters the back of the bucket. I think the black bucket is for a 'G' body and up, where the main harness enters the bucket and then goes back out the other hole to the corner light housing.

.....and if you buy a new one from PORSCHE, it will come with NO holes which allows you to put the holes where needed..just did that on my 72. Thank heaven Ed mentioned in a previous post to leave some distance between the bucket and fender before spot welding in place so you will be able to properly secure the trim ring...my recollection was about 4mm.
