    Early sport seats unknown year

I would appreciate if anyone could let me know the year vehicle that correlates to these seats. The seats are for sale.

I recently purchased a VW Beetle that came with a set of lovely early sport seats rigged into the car. They obviously don't belong there and were a danger as set up as the sliders were bolted to a second frame.

The seats are extremely comfortable and are useable as is or could be restored. The sliders and recliners work without issue and all knobs are present. The strapping is missing from the bottom and there is a pad and zip ties holding up the bottom cushion. There also is a 'skirt' attached around the bottom of the frame which can easily be removed.

The passenger seat is in very similar condition to the driver seat in the pictures. I will take pictures of it later today.

I can ship either from Toronto, Canada or Niagara Falls, NY (14303). $7,500 USD or best offer plus actual shipping costs.

That is a 68 Sport Seat so a short wheel base generation. There are basically 3 generations 67-68, 69-71, 72-73 and there are additional changes in details to those segments. What you have looks like the 68 SWB version with forward/aft lever integrated into the seat and integrated head rest, they are wearing late peanut style headrests so that makes me think they were originally an aftermarket sold seat and not originally delivered in a Porsche. Not many VW guys have seats that are worth more than their car, lol. Funny I was in a VW shop 12 years ago and bought a pair of these out of a bug, saved them from the trash more like it, with a thick corduroy cover on them kinda like what you have, I only paid $100 back then.

You had better take pictures of every angle of this seat, especially the bottom and how the sliders attach. People need to see what exactly comes with them.

Here is the valuable lesson for the guy that does not understand Recaro Sports Seats - the seat is one part and the base with sliders is the other part. Both parts are half the value of the seats. So if you are missing the original base and sliders then half the value of the seat is not there. If you have aftermarket or fabricated bases and sliders then they are worth absolutely nothing in addition to the seats. Authentic complete original parts is they key here. If you are missing original pieces then the likelyhood of finding original replacements is scarce and expensive and very costly. I have seen many people over the years try to sell just seats for the top retail price when they have nothing to mount them too which kills the value. The reason these seats sell so high is that they are the coolest option and very functional but the value is in original fit and fitting them without the original mounts is not going to work.

    Bamm!

    Well said Mark.

I'm afraid some people get Lotto mentality when they stumble upon hidden treasure.

Good luck with the sale coldstart. (Looks like your dog/cat was enjoying one of the seats before you ran him off.)
Someone spent some dough on that Bug.
The JC Whitney electric windows are a nice touch.

They are the special Scandinavian covers built at the Lapland Recaro factory. They were Recaro ‘cosy’ seats and the headrests and bolsters are made from baby reindeer pelts. Too hot for Texas.

Thanks for the great information. I had trouble telling the seats apart from the sport seat in my 72 911. I currently have one sport seat and one comfort seat in my car so I may just recover one to match. I dislike the comfort seat but I almost never am a passenger in my own car. My wife loves the 'couch' seat as she calls it.

The bottom of the seat has the original sliders but not the tilting base.

I completely get why there is piling on about the asking price but a price can later be lowered but not raised. I also was OBO. I wouldn't want to sell them for a hundred bucks, or pelts....

As for the dog, she just follows me around. Such a cutie....

The bug is great and I am likely going to keep her despite some issues. I thought I could use the sale of the seats to finance a paint job for her.

As Mark stated clearly....also the original M8, small head phillips recliner screws have been replaced with the later (incorrect) generic DIN screws. Those original screws are unobtainium.

    That's a myth.

At full asking price are you willing to throw the dog in?

My dogs don't follow me unless I smell like food.
