    'Motorsport' Rocker Shafts

I believe that the 906 style rocker arm used a rocker shaft supplied by Porsche Motorsport, that were a black colour.

I have read posts suggesting that these shafts were Tenifer treated but this doesn't make much sense as I think that the ends would be likely to deform due to the residual stresses that this process would introduce.

I tend to believe that the shafts were treated with a Manganese Phosphate coating which improves lubricity and helps to hold an oil film.

I hope that someone has a definitive answer, if not does anyone have a scrap Motorsport Shaft that we could have tested?

The 1967 Investment Rocker Arm was also used without a bush but I believe that this arm was used with a standard shaft and generally suffered from problems of 'galling'.

We currently make surface treated shafts but I am trying to review surface roughness and hardness specifications to match the new 906 Rocker Arms we are manufacturing.

We also believe the shafts were phosphates. The non bushed rockers can gall and seize on a standard shaft, as I discovered once, but not always. I've built a bunch of solid rocker engines, I just send shafts out for Parkerizing and have never had a problem. Gordon

Here are some RSR rockers, same as 906 but have 2 spiral oil groves on load side of rocker for better lubrication. Gordon
