    Steel Wheels Question

    Hi,

Would anyone happen to know exactly what color original KPZ steell wheels should be ex factory (for a early 1971 911T)? Where they all the same color or is the spare different?

There seem to be a lot of black wheels around, any reason for this?

    Thanks!!!

In 1971 steelies were painted silver-gray (not metallic) or were chrome-plated. I don't know if you optioned chrome whether the spare came that way as well. AFAIK, black-painted steelies would not be factory.

When Harvey Weidman refinished my factory 6" steelies, he painted them what he then called Ferrari silver. So, he added black to the silver paint to 'dull' them a little. They've been on the car since the Hershey Parade, and get kudos each time the car is shown.

I think for the black you are referring to the inside of the steelies and the middle portion where the studs are under the hubcap..
I have seen a POR grey or black, but cannot tell if that's different between Lemmerz or KPZ or based on years..

A little earlier than the info you are looking for but Mike M restored a set for his 67 using POR:

    Great video thanks!

My car was not optioned with chrome as far as I can tell from the Porsche Certificate.

I have a black wheel that was previously used as a spare, not sure if it was painted by somebody previously or delivered that way? Part numbers etc. all seem to make sense. The entire wheel is black.

Any ideas on how I can find the exact paint color/code for the correct silver?

    THANKS!

you should do a search, it came up recently - otherwise Stoddard sells the paint in spray cans (but if you are in Australia or Austria, maybe not an option? )

    or apparently Wurth.. http://www.stoddard.com/sic99915010.html
