    Ignition switch bezels - what diameters?

    I could use a little help on finding the right bezel (=metal cover, to be exact) for the ignition lock on my MY70 10-12/69 car. It seems that my lock just isn't standard though being still original...
    And yes, I did use the search function. THAT'S probably the reason for me getting that anal on this dimensions thingy ;-)

    As much as I found out yet there should be 2 kinds of ignition switches/bezels for early 911s:
    1. Ignition switches with 1-sided keys ('64-??): 13mm diameter
    2. Ingintion switches with 2-sided keys (~'70-'73) 18.7mm diameter
    Both have their respective screw-on bezels.

    Following this forum thread the outside diameters of those locks should be ~11.9mm respectively 17.2mm. The strange thing is that my lock has an outside diameter of 16.4mm/.645" on the end cap (besides it's black not chrome). So it is somewhere in between the above mentioned ones...
    The lock itself (2-sided key). The bolts look pretty much original to me:

    What do I have here? Can someone help me finding the correct metal cover for the bezel? Or would it be the 18.7mm-version with a resulting bigger gap around the lock?

    Tom, I posted in your other thread too, but to recap:

    The lock in my 8/71 (MY 72) 911T has a stainless end cap, and appears to be the 17.2mm two-sided key version (as you would expect). The hole in the bezel is a touch less than 19mm, so 18.7 sounds right.

    This is probably no help to you, but does tend to confirm prior info is at least somewhat correct.

    I read your other posting. Thx for that and for confirming the dimensions.

    The more I think about it the more I get the impression that my lock might not that original after all. Could be taken from the later "G-model" 911 (did not find dimensions of those on the web). No clue though why the break-away/shear bolts look still intact. I doubt you could remove the lock from the lock housing assembly without taking out the whole thing.
    Would you have a picture of the bolts on your car available?

    Someone replaced the lock and installed new shear bolts

    Seems like I will have to go with the 18.7mm bezel cover then and getting used to living with the "bigger" gap...

    Thread it in and tighten until the head shears off. Part number 901.613.193.00 which supersedes to 999.219.017.02

    Arne, I know how those bolts work. It was just that I could not imagine that someone really would drill out the bolts, replace (and synchronise) the lock with an incorrect one and then use correct shear bolts to install it again...
    Anyway, mystery solved. Thank you for your help here!
