Jim,
The passenger side has a hard plastic one. I had a driver side repop soft and squishy, but it fell off. The driver side one I have is what came with the car, hard plastic, which I much prefer, but it is somewhat loose.
Dan, if you have one (or two) with hard plastic, please let me know.
Thanks both for the info

If you want a cheap fix, remove the cover from the knob and put a tight fitting washer inside it to firm it up.

I removed the top and filled with liquid epoxy.. after it hardened, it was a solid knob. to keep the epoxy from oozing into the "bushing", I sprayed it with penetrant first, placed a small piece of saran wrap over the bottom of the hollow knob, poured, placed the cap. and turned the assembly over so gravity kept it away from the connection.. works great,
Got a pair of handles...thanks, everyone.
