The Kardex for our 1965 912 lists 6402 B. I know what 6402 is (Rubinrot), but don’t know why the B is for, it doesn’t match the list of manufacturers. Any one know the answer? Thanks

I have discovered that the code letter in the paint box can be considered a carpet color code. The upholstery code in the adjacent box would be B for schwarz. Very rarely (like one in a thousand) would the carpet code be different than the upholstery code. Now if the code was B/P or B/C, then that generally refers to the upholstery more directly. I was under the impression for the longest time that it only referred to the upholstery until that one case when the code differed, and the owner confirmed the carpets were different than the remaining interior.

That is what is on the Kardex on our 65 356SC - Schwarz 6413 B.
Black car, black carpet, and black interior.
69 911S #1379
65 356 SC #130757
I believe that the chart above for the 356 also applies to the 911 & 912 for the 1965 model year. The key item is code D, in 1965MY code D = grey, and in 1966MY code D = beige
Also, in 1965MY code C is not on the list above, and in 1966MY code C = brown

Yes, rare 11.64 dated color chart, together with dated 9.64 the first two for 901/911/912ROW/356C MY 1965 models.
They got replaced by 5.65 dated issue (different cover and for 911/912ROW/912US only), indicating the upcoming MY66 colors.
Haul told me we can use it for our planned literature project..,

You guys continue to blow me away with your depth of knowledge...a treasure for the boards. Thank you for the info; one less piece of the Kardex puzzle. Still trying to figure out the engine number thing and the notations of what seem to be some out of order stuff. We are still seeking the original engine (740523) but we'd be happy to find 740582. The engine we do have is a period correct supposed big bore, 741695
