    SWB Steering rack question

    Hello,

Working on my 67 suspension. The steering rack was gross...but it turns very well and seems super smooth. I have a before pic and two “during” because I’m not finished cleaning yet. But there is a part on my steering rack that I think I know what it is...circled in red. I “think” this is the mount for a steering damper.

I don’t plan to run a steering damper. So, two questions: am I correct that it is a steering damper mount AND can I just remove this bolt and plug the threads with a small bolt that threads in?

    Thanks!Name: 2228CCFF-3B1F-40CC-89F2-0D1853A3AB95.jpg

Thanks. I was going to remove simply because I thought it will give me more clearance and I could make the whole rack look cleaner...is that a bad idea?

Got some more work done. If you look at the pics, my next question is in regards to the tab washer. On the original tie rod there is a tab washer that has a slot that fits in the groove on the steering rack. The washer also has an extended safety tab area that was bend over the nut holding the original tie rod into the steering rack. Do you attempt to reuse that washer or do you simply bolt the new turbo tie rod directly into the steering rack. I have seen some pics online and it looks like you just screw the new turbo tie rod in...but it couldn’t hurt to double check with all of you...some pics below

I had all intentions of using my steering damper, but going to the turbo style tie rod set up meant it wasn't possible for me.
