Red face Original PN of MY71 2.2S Koni struts?

    Hello everybody,

apologies for getting started with a question for my first post, but I was not able to find an area to introduce myself. However, I have been lurking on this forum for a while (impressive concentration of passion and knowledge!) and after a while I finally decided to register an account.
I am looking after a Nov 1970 (MY71) 911S 2.2 that has always been within our family for the last 48 years. Although the car has done less than 65k km from new, over its history due to some variable "performance" of some workshops it has been subject to a a pair of "unrequested" changes of parts.

More specifically, I recently found out that the car is sitting on its supposedly original Konis except for the front right strut which is - quite surprisingly - a later BOGE unit (911.341.042.03... Carrera 3.2?) with a Koni insert. As I would like to bring the car back to originality, I am wondering what are the correct PNs for its original front Koni struts.

I have already checked into the different part manuals: I might be wrong, but to me it looks like Porsche has "merged" PNs for 2.2 and 2.4 models, while I understand that originally they did not share the exact same strut. Is that the case?
In fact, the L/R PNs that result from the 70-73 parts manual (Kat 074 from 24.07.2017) are 901.341.083.10 and 901.341.084.10, however the remark says "72-" which I read as "from MY72 onwards". I can't find any other PN referring to a Koni strut.
Looking around online, I have been able to find 911.341.042.10/911.341.041.10 but I cannot understand if these are the same as the above or actually different components.

As the rest of the car is extremely original, I would prefer sourcing and fitting an original component from the same year, rather then sourcing a new "genuine" replacement item which is different (albeit supposedly better/safer/etc.) than what came out from factory back then.

Finally, one last question: I am noticing most of the online specialists in NOS and original used parts appear to be based out of the US. Are you aware of any equivalent online/e-commerce specialists in Europe? (basically in order to reduce shipping time and customs duties).

Many thanks in advance for any contribution!
    Have a nice day
    Corrado

Try ebay.de . I have seen a few of these on there from time to time although you might have to buy the pair.

Its unusual to have only one strut replaced, as on your car. Likely due to accident damage.

Thanks a lot NorthernThrux, will have a look over there.

I agree it is quite unusual, and even less likely to happen if a car never had any accidents at all as in this case. Most likely somebody needed an old original Koni strut and they took it and replaced with something less valuable. Unfortunately they did the same with 2 of the Fuchs (putting non-original ones). Needless to say that the car is now serviced at a different workshop...

    Cheers,
    Corrado

    Hello Corrado,

The PN's from the original MY71 parts manual are 911.341.925.00 (left) and 926.00 (rigth). There are some fellow countryman of you offering NOS parts, otherwise best choice is on eBay.de but ain't cheap anymore.

    Ciao, Cees

    Hello Cees,
thanks a lot for the info, will check around then. Do you know what are the physical differences between these PNs and the ones that Porsche now suggest?
I assume that the internal Koni cartridges are the same for all of these
    Ciao!

Honestly no idea. For sure it is 3.5" spacing for the S calipers but differences between the years no clue.

    But I have seen many 2.2 Koni struts with P/N 901.341.079.10 (left) and 080.10 (Right). 901 P/N mind you, not 911 P/N.

    Corrado,
How about a picture of your car?

    Thanks a lot blue72s and 71gold!
Actually my LH strut is a 901.341.079.10. Today I just managed to find and purchase a matching 901.341.080.10 from the same year (70), and took the chance to order a full set of new Konis (red) front+rear, so eventually we are heading towards a solution .
In terms of pictures I just have 2 low-res ones from my old mobile phone, will take better ones as soon as I get the car back from the workshop (hopefully by the weekend). You will notice the non-original Fuchs I mentioned above, which is going to be my next "mission".

PS: @71post, congrats for the Appia Zagato (we are "colleagues" on that front as well )
