    123 Distributor for my 1972 911T MFI

    Hi.
I just put a 123 distributor in my 1965 230SL automatic and I instantly could not be happier. The car runs smoother than it ever was and revs hard and strong and smooth right to the redline.
    Highly recommended.

I am now considering this in my 1972 911T MFI coupe.
My 911T has a pematune ignition system. Not sure what the OHM range is on it.

Has anyone here gone to a 123 distributor in a 2.4 MFI car?
If so wondering to hear your experience.

    Regards
    Peter

Not a 2.4 but, I installed 123ignition on my 2.2S with MFI. Car runs noticeably smother from idle to redline. This is compared to the original recently rebuilt distributor with Pertronix.

The only issue I had was my car had a very unstable idle after installing the 123ignition. It was all fixed after switching from the stock copper core ignition wires to wound core ignition wires.

I have a buddy who has installed them in 356,914, and 911’s. He thinks they are great. Easy install, fairly inexpensive, and good results. Only setback is they are not original equipment.

If you drive your car (as opposed to show it) it seems like a good option since it is completely reversible. I too am interested to hear what people say. I drive 150 miles a week in Hildegard and anything that contributes to reliability and smooth operation is good. But anything I do has to be hidden or reversible. I want my car ad to say "older restoration driven with love and abandon" when I finally sell it!

I think you need a new coil too though?

    Hi.
I am using a preprogramed one in my 230SL.

I am going to do the same in my 1972 911T MFI.
My 911 has a 3 wire permatune box with blue coil.
Does anyone know what the OHM specification is on the permatume?

For a 2.4 MFI, can you keep the 3 pin Bosch CDI box on the mount and just disconnect the 3 wire connector to use on the 123 distributor?

    That's a good question.

Ed at 123 here in USA just confirmed with it is 2 wire Porsche applications.

I believe it is wired Black to CDI lead and red to + coil.

I'm looking at it like this. I am concerned about originality. But putting one of these in takes alot of potential issues off the table. Just put the original distributor and associated parts that might come out in a box that goes with the car.
There is a noticeable improvement in my 65 230SL. No more pinging and slight hesitations. Runs outstanding.
