The Konradheim RS book mentioned that the factory ‘werks’ RSRs were initially delivered in GrandPrix white over a grey primer, and only then received their silver paint on the outside of the car.
I always assumed that the white used for the earlier racers (917, 910, 906, etc) was 'grandprix white' as well, but not sure.

It’s a pretty stark white, so I’d guess Gran Prix or Alpine white.

Grand Prix white as you know is the color on the white 73RS’s. Very pure white.

Grand Prix White came out in 1973 as Rower says, so was not a known color for the earlier cars. So I honestly don't know what the white color would be. I had an idea that it may have been gel-coat white, but many were likely painted.

vehicle came in GP white to my shop but all gp white colour chips i have mention `73 as date of issue so i heavily doubted that it came like this from the factory.yes Dave -i do have some pictures of of 90X that clearly show only gel-coat. but also many where you can see white overspray on the inside of the panels....i do have some 906 body fragments with multiple paint/filler layers.will sand one down and see what comes to light...my next guess would be RAL 9016 verkehrsweiss
