    Fs: 9111301251 . . .

    VIN = 9111301251
    Eng# = ?
    Trans# = 7117928
    Prod# = ?

    '. . . This particular model, chassis number 9111301251, is a remarkably intact example. Presented in authentic period Group 4 specification, this special car is ready to head off on the Tour Auto or the local hillclimb.

    The official build specification of this car indicates that it left the factory with an M471 lightweight body, a simplified interior, no underseal and thinner than standard glass. It was fitted with an “S” spec 2.2 L engine and short ratio “Airfield” competition gearbox. The list of additional racing options is extensive and it seems clear the car was intended for short circuit or hillclimb competition.

    A full restoration of the car which took over three years was completed in 2019. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt by Manfred Rugen, the former to full race specification with 2,340cc capacity, twin plug ignition, race fuel injection pump and high butterfly induction. Further detail work was completed by Sportwagen under the guidance of Sports Purpose. The car has done less than 2,000 miles since.

    In terms of authenticity, so important on these early competition 911s, the car has all of its identification markings intact: the VIN stamping in the luggage compartment, the original VIN tag, the production number stamping under the dashboard, the original production number wax marking on the dash cowl and the original engine number. The car has a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche which confirms its identity as an S-T. It is also included in the list of factory S-T chassis compiled by Porsche historian Hugh Hodges and recently published in 000 Magazine.

    Overall the car presents as an authentic period race car and retains a character that is all too often lost in the modern restoration process.

    The car retains the leather Recaro Sport seats which have been in the car for many years and which Rolf Nilsson inherited when he bought it in 1989. However it is currently fitted with a pair of original Recaro lightweight bucket seats which are available by separate negotiation . . .

    Sports Purpose confirmed to me they were offering this ST for 900,000 GBP a couple of months ago but I cannot find any reference to it anywhere on Hugh’s Ultimate ST thread nor do Sports Purpose refer to any verified competition history. It’s also wearing 9” Fuchs which doesn’t seem right for a 1971 ST.

    I wonder if the board are aware of this car and can provide any more insight?

    This is what Porsche say about it "officially" albeit in a COA
    1251.jpg

    I have never seen a COA like this anywhere else
    However taking it at face value the optional equipment effectively describes a M471 car for 1971 with "airfield" gear set but does not specify the engine tune for the S engine

    The build book entry, although hard to read, seems to back that up and clearly states it is a M471 car. the entry is almost exactly the same as for 1301270 which was the "Vesty" Le Mans ST in 1971

    build.jpg

    while it may have done a few club events early in ts life I cant find any real competition history and suggest that it was more likely a fast road car as from the build book you can tell it was registered in Germany as a road car from new

    The only documented competition history is 2 club races in Sweden - one in 1992 and the other in 1993

    I know that Bonhams claim period racing history for this car with Stenzel racing for "Team Matter- Überrollbügel" but I am not convinced. The only photo I have seen from any of the events mentioned (all of which have Stenzel as the pilot) is at the 1971 Sudwest Pokal-Int. ADACV Solitude Rennen on 4 July 1971 whare Stenzel had race #7. The photo looks like it is his 1970ST which I understand to be 911 030 1054 which was painted green (not originally I understand) with psychedelic orange trim and he sold in early 1972
    So while there seems to be a lot of research done I am not convinced it is for this car although the history I have may be incorrect instead

    9111301251

    VIN = 9111301251
    Eng# = 6311707
    Trans# = 7117928
    Prod# = ?

    '. . . Chassis number 911.130.1251 is one of the approximately 62 S/T models produced and is said to be one of about 7 cars built in 1971. Accompanying production records and a history report by S/T historian Thomas Skogli document this car's racing provenance and highly desirable track-focused specification. According to the documentation, chassis 1251 was ordered by the German Porsche dealer MAHAG München and delivered to them in May 1971 with a host of Sports Purposes equipment. It appears to have been used for their customer racing program and entered several races by them or presumably their clients throughout the early 1970s, and it has been meticulously yet sympathetically restored to its stunning as-delivered specs.

    The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity reads like a Christmas list for Porsche fans. Firstly, it features the M471 lightweight body option which includes simplified bumpers, widened rear flares, and fiberglass deck lids. Quick release closures for the bonnet and engine lid were optioned, as was a 62-liter fuel tank with under hood filler (since updated to 100 liters). Long wheel bolts accommodate the wider wheels and make for quicker tire changes in the heat of battle. It was also specified with a factory roll bar, factory mounting points for competition belts, the simplified interior option (plain door cars, no sound insulation or other niceties), no underseal, and lightweight glass. Lastly, MAHAG specified the fabulous shade of Conda Green (code 2656) with black Porsche lettering on the body sides and tail.

    Under the skin, this car originally had a 2,195cc Type 901/02 engine, which was essentially the standard 180bhp road & rally unit. The engine was backed by a 5-speed transaxle with optional "Airfield" racing gear ratios and a limited-slip differential. Per the accompanying history report, this car is said to retain its original numbers-matching engine, which was uprated in July 1971 to 911/20 Group 4 specifications, boosting it to approximately 2.3 liters and a claimed 230 bhp on mechanical fuel injection. It is noted that the gearbox is a period replacement unit, rebuilt with the Airfield ratios and limited slip internals as specified by factory records.

    According to the Thomas Skogli report, the car was entered in several German GT races in 1971 and 1972, often with Reinhardt Stenzel at the helm. Period photos show it often ran with a fabulous 917-inspired 'psychedelic' livery and the ubiquitous Minilite wheels. Highlights of its on-track exploits include:

    • 1971 Flugplatzrennen Kaufbeuren, Allgau – 1st in GT, +2000cc
    • 1971 ADAC Bavaria-Rennen, Saltzburgring – 1st in Class, Group 4
    • 1971 Sudwest Pokal-Int. ADACV Solitude Rennen – 4th Overall
    • 1971 ADAC Hessenpreiss Flugplatz Kassel – 3rd in Class
    • 1972 Int. DMV Rhein-pokal Jochen Rindt, Hockenheim – 1st Overall

    In 1989, the 911 S/T was discovered by Rolf Nilsson at MAHAG. At the time, it was finished in white and dressed in RS-style trim, and once he uncovered the car's true identity, he restored it back to its original green. It stayed with Nilsson for approximately a decade, before joining the collection of Ulf Lundberg in 1999. Lundberg ran the car occasionally in historic events, but it largely stayed in his collection. It then traded hands to Pär Tufvesson, before coming into the care of Jonathan Williams in the UK in 2013. Working through the respected specialists at Autofarm, Mr. Williams commissioned a comprehensively detailed and documented restoration. Since then, it has remained in an extensive and significant Porsche collection and is now beautifully preserved to be shown with pride, while the light character simply begs for you to grab the keys and go searing off down your favorite ribbon of tarmac
